cPanel FTP Manager

FTP : FTP stands for file transfer protocol which is responsible for transferring files
between computers through internet or any network. Its easiest way for transferring data
files over a network. Cpanel control panel do provide you FTP manager tool using which you can create and manage FTP accounts, you can also control FTP sessions using this tool. You need to use FTP ‘client ‘ program using which you can connect to server where your hosting account is setup. Your webhosting service provider will offer you all details once your hosting account is setup, you will get cpanel control panel details, FTP details etc…., once your hosting account is set up on server you can login to your account, if you want to transfer data files on your hosting account you need to login to your FTP account and just need to connect to your account and start data transfer.
For transferring data using FTP technology you need to have at least 2 computers, one running an FTP server and other FTP client. All data transfer is initiated by clients which logs in to FTP server and data transfer will be proceeded. You need to login to to FTP serve using user name and password, once you login to FTP server a FTP session is opened and will stays open until you close it manually or is closed by FTP server forcefully if there are any such session scripts running on server. Or until session is times out. As long as you are active in FTP session you can execute number of FTP commands using which you can change directories, list files, get, edit and upload files for your hosting account.

There are many FTP clients program software packages available, most of them are free, so that you can use them freely. Eg… CuteFTP, WS FTP etc…You can also upload data/files through your control panel which have a built in feature called “ FILE MAGAGER “ using which you can transfer files on your server.
You an create any number of such FTP accounts using your control panel cPanel. There FTP account can be distributed among different users who can have limited access to your
server/hosting account. cPanel plays an important role in managing all FTP accounts and session, you can also cut then off if they go idle for longer period of time.
As a webmaster you  should always be careful while dealing with FTP accounts, as FTP
accounts allows any external user to modify your website, can upload, delete and modify data files of your website, thus be sure you have setup FTP accounts with utmost care.
